This set of three Antique French Cul Noir (Black butt) bowl feature the distinctive colour scheme and beautiful crackled glaze.
Dating from the 19th Century, Cul Noir pottery is from around Rouen in Northern France. It features a distinctive brown glaze on the underside (containing manganese which gives it the colour) and a white glaze on the upper surface.
This is a very old and well used item with many decades of use. As such, it has age-related marks, scratches and scrapes which enhance its rustic appeal. Please look closely at the photos for any chips and hairline cracks that part of antique pieces such as this.
