The classic French confit pot, typically found in the South West of France, dates from the late 18th and 19th century. It was used for preserving food such as meats, especially duck, which is a local speciality.
The top half has a yellow glaze and the bottom half is unglazed. This is typical of the confit pot of this era, as they were buried in the ground to keep the food cool.
This pot has a beautiful glazed interior in great condition. It features very small handles and distinguishing glaze drip marks on the exterior.
This is a very old and well used item with many decades of use. As such, it has age-related marks, scratches and scrapes which enhance its rustic appeal. It has not been tested for water-tightness, and is sold as a decorative object.
