Antique French Four Handled Yellow Conscience Jar

This antique French yellow four handled conscience jar is a rare find. The four handles were to loop rope through for easier transportation. More frequently found in green, but rarely in yellow.

These vessels gained their name due to the priests and monks that relied on the consciences of farmers and villagers to give what olive oil they could spare to help the poor.

This is a very old and well used item with many decades of use. As such, it has age-related marks, scratches and scrapes which enhance its rustic appeal. It has not been tested for water-tightness, and is sold as a decorative object.
