The classic French confit pot, typically found in the South West of France, dates from the late 18th and 19th century. It was used for preserving food such as meats, especially duck, which is a local speciality.
The top half has a yellow glaze with hints of green around the rim and a beautiful patina. The bottom half is unglazed. This is typical of the confit pot of this era, as they were buried in the ground to keep the food cool.
It is hard to find confit pots of this size, as they are normally larger.
This is a very old and well used item with many decades of use. As such, it has age-related marks, scratches and scrapes which enhance its rustic appeal. It has not been tested for water-tightness, and is sold as a decorative object.
