Typically found in the South West of France, these pots were used in the late 18th and 19th century for preserving meats in fat, especially duck, which is a local speciality.
The top half has a yellow glaze with hints of green around the rim and a beautiful patina. The bottom half is unglazed. It has not been tested for water-tightness, and is sold as a decorative object.
It is hard to find confit pots of this size, as they are normally larger.
This is a very old and well used item with many decades of use. As such, it has age-related marks, scratches and scrapes which enhance its rustic appeal. This also has a crack running from the rim down the side the pot, but is structurally sound and adds to the charm.
