Typically found in the South West of France, these pots were used in the late 18th and 19th century for preserving meats in fat, especially duck, which is a local speciality.
This green confit pot dates from the late 18th Century. It is unusual to find confit pots of this condition, especially in green, as these pre-date most yellow confit pots.
The top half has a green glaze with great patterns from wear, various marks and indentations and a beautiful patina. The bottom half is unglazed. It has a hole drilled the base for drainage.
This is a very old and well used item with many decades of use. As such, it has age-related marks, scratches and scrapes which enhance its rustic appeal. It has not been tested for water-tightness, and is sold as a decorative object.
